The Law Offices of Alexander H. Schure offers legal services at comparatively affordable and reasonable rates. Unfortunately, a competent and experienced attorney will not likely ever be “inexpensive,” but reasonable hourly rates will make a substantial difference in the overall cost of any legal matter.

The initial in office consultation for any legal matter is free. Some firms limit such a consultation to one half hour or other similar time cap. We have no time limit for the initial consultation, but most consultations range from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Consultations in more complicated matters may range from 1 to 1˝ hours in duration.

The attorney does not offer telephone consultations except for callers who reside outside of the Bay Area. We are happy to set up telephone consultation appointments for callers outside the area if we are so notified.

Alexander H. Schure presently charges an hourly rate of $250.00 per hour. The rate for an associate is $150.00 per hour. Direct out of pocket costs, such as filing fees and process server charges for example, are paid in advance. These costs will be estimated and explained at the time of the consultation.

Estimate, Retainer and Monthly Payments

At the time of the initial consultation, the attorney will provide the client with a written estimate of attorneys fees and costs. This estimate is based upon the information given to the attorney during the consultation, the complexity of the issues, the nature and type of the issues, and the extent to which it appears certain issues will or will not require court hearings and/or a court trial. This estimate of fees is called the “retainer.”

In addition to providing the estimate of attorneys fees, the attorney will also state in writing how this retainer is to be paid. In most cases, an advance deposit is required which usually will be one half of the estimated fees. This deposit may be more than one half the retainer in cases that are particularly litigious and/or where a significant portion of the overall work to be done is to be done in the very near future. One example of this is in emergency custody/visitation proceedings such as Emergency Screenings. The remaining portion of the retainer will be paid in monthly payments. Those monthly payments usually range from $250.00 to $500.00 per month depending upon the facts and circumstances of the case.

It is our mission to clearly explain to all of our clients their rights and obligations concerning attorneys fees and costs. It benefits no one if there is poor communication, misunderstandings or false expectations regarding attorneys fees, and we strive to avoid such occurrences. Under no circumstances do we seek to “hide the ball” as to anticipated attorneys fees and costs; rather, we believe it is always best to be clear and up front.
